Abstract
Differently prepared aortic root allografts were inserted in the right ventricular outflow tract of growing puppies. Degenerative changes were studied and related to the method of preparation as well as the length of implantation. The grafts of animals surviving more than 33 days demonstrated some degree of calcification. Calcification in the valve leaflets was rarely observed and was most pronounced in the non-viable valves. Viability was found to be an important parameter in long-term function. Viable valves showed less degree of degenerative changes.
